Idioms are phrases which cannot be understood simply by looking at the meaning of the individual words in the phrase.
Idiom:
say (something) to (someone's) face
Meaning:
to say something (often unpleasant) directly to someone
Example:
My supervisor always complains about me but she never says anything to my face.
