Phrasal Verb


A phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or adverb or both and that functions as a verb whose meaning is different from the combined meanings of the individual words.

bubble over

Meaning / Example:

1. [for boiling or effervescent liquid] to spill or splatter over the edge of its container.
> The pot bubbled over and put out the flame on the stove.

2. [for someone] to be so happy and merry that the joy "spills over" onto other people.
> She was just bubbling over, she was so happy.
