Phrasal Verb


Phrasal verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words. The two or three words that make up a phrasal verb form a short 'phrase' - which is why we call them 'phrasal verbs'.


Phrasal Verb:
burn something out

Meaning / Example:

1. to burn away the inside of something, getting rid of excess deposits.
> The mechanic burned the carbon out of the manifold.

2. to wear out an electrical or electronic device through overuse.
> Turn it off. You're going to burn the motor out!
