Phrasal Verb


Phrasal verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words. The two or three words that make up a phrasal verb form a short 'phrase' - which is why we call them 'phrasal verbs'.


Phrasal Verb:
carry something off

Meaning / Example:

1. to take something away with oneself; to steal something.
> Someone carried off my books!

2. to make a planned event work out successfully.
> It was a huge party, but the hostess carried it off beautifully.
