Phrasal Verb
A group of words which have a different meaning when used together from the one they would have if you took the meaning of each word separately.
Phrasal Verb:
chalk something up
Meaning / Example:
1. to write something on a chalkboard.
> Let me chalk this formula up so you all can see it.
> I'll chalk up the formula.
2. to add a mark or point to one's score.
> Chalk another goal for Sarah.
> Chalk up another basket for the other side.

Phrasal verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words. The two or three words that make up a phrasal verb form a short 'phrase' - which is why we call them 'phrasal verbs'.
