A phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or adverb or both and that functions as a verb whose meaning is different from the combined meanings of the individual words.

1. to make someone or something appear, seemingly by the use of magic. > The magician conjured seven white doves up.
2. to manage to locate someone or something. > I think I can conjure a pencil up for you. > Do you think you can conjure up a large coffee urn in the next half hour?
3. to manage to think up or imagine someone or something in one's mind. > All I could do was to conjure up happy memeories.
Phrasal verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words. The two or three words that make up a phrasal verb form a short 'phrase' - which is why we call them 'phrasal verbs'.
