Phrasal Verb
Phrasal verbs are compound verbs that result from combining a verb with an adverb or a preposition. The resulting compound verb is idiomatic.
Phrasal Verb:
cut off
Meaning / Example:
1. to stop by itself or oneself.
> The machine got hot and cut off.
2. to turn off a road, path, highway, etc.
> This is the place where you are supposed to cut off.

Phrasal verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words. The two or three words that make up a phrasal verb form a short 'phrase' - which is why we call them 'phrasal verbs'.
