Phrasal Verb


A phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or adverb or both and that functions as a verb whose meaning is different from the combined meanings of the individual words.


Phrasal Verb:
hand something off (to someone)

Meaning / Example:

1. to give a football directly to another player.
> Roger handed the ball off to Jeff.
> He handed off the ball.

2. to give something to someone else to do or complete.
> I'm going to hand this assignment off to Jeff.
