Phrasal verbs are two or more words that come together to give us a new verb with a different meaning from the original words.


Phrasal Verb:
hook something down

Meaning / Example:

1. to attach something and hold it down with a hook.
> Please hook the lid down so it doesn't fall off.
> Please hook down the lid.

2. Sl. to toss something down to someone.
> Hook another can of beer down to me, will you?

3. Sl. to eat something quickly; to gobble something up.
> Wally hooked the first hamburger down and ordered another.
