Phrasal Verb

A phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or adverb or both and that functions as a verb whose meaning is different from the combined meanings of the individual words.

Phrasal Verb:
laugh something off

to treat a serious problem lightly by laughing at it.

Although his feelings were hurt, he just laughed the incident off as if nothing had happened.
