A phrase that consists of a verb with a preposition or adverb or both, the meaning of which is different from the meaning of its separate parts.

Meaning / Example:

1. [for someone] to exit quietly without bothering anyone.
> I slipped out during intermission.

2. [for information] to be spoken without realizing that it is secret or privileged.
> The secret about her divorce slipped out when we were discussing old friends.
