Phrasal Verb


Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs that, like single-word verbs, convey action of the body or mind or occurrences. Phrasal verbs consist of a basic verb + another word or words, usually a preposition or adverb. Example: speak (basic verb) + up (preposition)


Phrasal Verb:
speak up

Meaning / Example:

1. to speak more loudly.
> They can't hear you in the back of the room. Please speak up.
> What? Speak up, please. I'm hard of hearing.

2. to speak out (on something).
> If you think that this is wrong, you must speak up and say so.
> I'm too shy to speak up.
