Phrasal Verb
A group of words which have a different meaning when used together from the one they would have if you took the meaning of each word separately.
Phrasal Verb:
take someone on
Meaning / Example:
1. to enter into a fight or argument with someone.
> I pretended to agree because I really didn't want to take him on.
2. to employ someone.
> I think we could take you on as an assistant editor, but it doesn't pay very well.
Phrasal verbs are compound verbs that result from combining a verb with an adverb or a preposition. The resulting compound verb is idiomatic.
