A phrase that combines a verb with a preposition or adverb or both and that functions as a verb whose meaning is different from the combined meanings of the individual words.

throw something up

Meaning / Example:

1. to build or erect something in a hurry.
> They sure threw that building up in a hurry.

2. to vomit something.
> He threw up his dinner.
